Welcome to the St Virgil’s College Sport Website

St Virgil’s College has a rich tradition of excellence in sport and believes that sport plays an integral part in the growth and development of boys within our context as a Catholic school for boys in the Edmund Rice tradition. Participation in sport is an important part of life at St Virgil’s College. St Virgil’s has been the educational home of Olympians, AFL players, State cricketers and countless community club athletes and coaches.

Some famous graduates of the programme include:

  • Dr Scott Brennan – Olympic gold medallist rower

Sport provides students with healthy recreation, opportunities to form close friendships with fellow students and teachers, and instils the values of working together with others towards a common goal. Students of all ages and abilities can be team members and work together to develop skills, self-confidence and resilience at all times guided by our core values of community, justice and respect.

The College’s Sport Policy is intended to:

  • assist each student’s growth through the discovery of their personal talents;
  • encourage students to contribute to the College community at a communal level;
  • encourage students to adopt life-long healthy lifestyle choices through participation in sporting and recreation programmes; and
  • facilitate staff-student relationships in an area other than the classroom.
