7/8 Hockey Champions

78 hockey

St Virgil’s College has a proud history in the sport of hockey, stretching back many years. Our grade 7/8 boys team has added another superb example of the school’s exemplary record in this sport.
The boys completed an undefeated season by winning the Grand Final this week, defeating New Town High 4-0. Such was their dominance, that over the course of the season, the boys won every game, in the process scoring 45 goals and conceding only 2 goals for the duration of the season.
The team is loaded with State and Southern representatives, boasting amongst its ranks the captains of the State U12 and U13 teams and two boys who are already competing in the 1st grade men’s Club competition.
Despite their dominance in every aspect of the game, the boys represented the college with great sportsmanship and fairness, treating opponents with great respect. At times, the boys could clearly be seen to be “taking it easy” in order not to humiliate clearly mismatched opponents.
These boys will no doubt continue to bring home silverware for the College on a regular basis as they work their way up to the senior grades
